GOLDEN TULIP VILLA MASSALIA MARSEILLE

Nestled in the most southern part of Marseille and just a few steps away from the sea stands the new playground for our European ‘Lillies!

Here, there is no swing or slide, but rather a sumptuous swimming pool set against the idyllic landscape of the Golden Tulip Villa Massalia.

Here, there are no children running about, but the European ‘Lillies who rehearse and practice their choreography. Here, the cicadas of Southern France accompany the musical notes of our choreography for the pleasure of the guests of the hotel, who can enjoy the show from the jacuzzi! One of our photographers, Nicolas Kaplan, took advantage of these moments to immortalize them with his professional eye.

“What I remember about this event at Villa Massalia is certainly the incredible environment, but also our debut on a major public television channel! TF1 News Channel was present to capture this magical moment. What a joy it is to be able to share a little bit of our daily life with our families and friends!”

“This place combines excellence and an “air de vacances”. One cannot dream for a better rehearsal space for Aqualillies! When you’re facing a camera in such a beautiful setting, everything shines so bright!”

“This place will remain for me, the place where our families and friends have first seen us perform as the European ‘Lillies! I remember seeing emotions in their sparkling eyes.”

“This is where we paid tribute to Esther Williams for the first time at our annual Watershow last August! It was the first time that the whole Aqualillies family across the world was swimming together for a global tribute! It gave us great perspective.”

Marseille is abound with secret places, some places can only be found on the seafront, looking out over a deadlock or sinuous stairs. The Sporting Club Corniche is one of these places. Undetectable from the road, the hidden stairs will lead you into a secluded paradise.

Here, you’re with family. The Marseille locals will welcome you with open arms and then the sea will take over. The swimming pool then offers itself as a surprise down below.

Here, the Sporting Club has seen so many intense moments. On the European Union Synchronized Swimming Association is Eric, the venue’s president, and Jérôme, the manager of the pool – and so many others who have crossed paths with this very unique place.

Here, we shot the music video with Husbands and Cauboyz, here, we’ve spent hours rehearsing for our aquatics shows, and here we have welcomed photographers and journalists.

This place, as strange as it is beautiful, will stay in our minds forever as the birthplace of Aqualillies Europe.

COME UNDERWATER WITH ME…

COME UNDERWATER WITH ME…

Written by: Frankie Owen ~ AQUALILLIES AUSTRALIA

Water has always been a part of my life, and this is why I want to share more underwater images with you. When i’m not shooting weddings, I like to venture into the ocean or a pool and capture its magic.

With so many years spent in the pool being a synchronised swimmer, I always knew there was something unique to be captured. The feeling you get when you’re swimming, how at ease you feel, how the water holds you.. all of these things I wanted to start reliving and showing in my photography. When i’m shooting, i’m always wanting to capture images that exude emotion and movement.

These photos below were captured at Tea Tree Bay up at Noosa, for a local swimwear designer, Klams. We also went for a dip in Soleil’s Pool, in SouthBank.. where we do a lot of shows for Aqualillies Australia. Enjoy!

MARGAUX CHRÉTIEN: Rio 2016 Olympian, Aqualillies EU

Following the Rio 2016 Olympics, Margaux Chrétien, one half of the France duet, joined Aqualillies Europe! She shared a few words with us about her experience this past summer at the Olympic games.

“In Rio, I felt the most amazing emotions for this sport. Everything was so grand, so beautiful (it was my first Olympics so I felt like a little kid!), and I kept telling myself: Here we are! This is it, it’s right NOW! Obviously we had to deal with a lot of pressure because all the athletes were so prepared, and everybody was at their best for this event. The competition was intense, there were 5 duets fighting for the 8th place in the preliminaries. It wasn’t a medal, but we proudly took 8th place. The most powerful feeling is that, in the moment of the competition, everything feels so natural. We worked so hard in so many competitions leading up to Rio, we were so ready! I still remember the rush of adrenaline when we went out from the call room. It was crazy!!
Actually, now, I’m asking myself how did I not gave up! It was the ultimate step of my career, the Olympics Games, the event that everybody in the world is following. All the people I love the most in my life were in the pool bleachers, and when we knew that we were 8th, we immediately started weeping with joy. It could not have been better!”
